------- Forwarded Message From: "L-Soft list server at Karlsruhe (1.8a)" Subject: Usage guidelines for MALTS-L Reply-To: MALTS-L-Request@RZ.UNI-KARLSRUHE.DE X-LSV-ListID: MALTS-L Welcome to the Malt Whisky mailing list This mailing list exists for the exchange of information and views amongst those who enjoy Malt Whisky. It has no commercial affiliations though individuals may recommend particular brands or malts that they themselves found enjoyable and information provided without strings is appropriately credited whoever supplied it, commercial or no. Discussion topics so far have ranged from tasting notes through discussions of manufacturing technique, characteristics of various suppliers, Malt Societies, pronounciation and derivation of place names and general chat. We mostly talk about Scotch malt whisky but do occasionally discuss related spirits such as bourbon and Japanese whiskies. All tasting notes are purely 'amateur' and subjective. No tastings or descriptions from known interested bodies appear here and the tasting notes should never be taken as being authoritative statements on the relative worth of particular manufacturers' products. A few list members are retailers or have other commercial links with the whisky industry. The group collectively decided that low-key commercial replies to specific questions were OK though the group should NOT be used for advertising i.e. commercial members should NOT initiate postings in their commercial capacity. Certain commercial replies e.g. to the question "give me your complete price list please" should also be kept off-line and the reply sent back individually. You don't need me to mention Netiquette so I won't except that please bear in mind when contributing long postings that some readers may be using slow lines for which they are paying line charges themselves. For this reason please keep mail sort-of to the point and if citing another mail message only include the bits you need to. Also, finally, be assured that you are among friends here. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some administrative comments This list runs under L-Soft's LISTSERV.
