Letter #02

Santos, Wednesday, January 21, 1942.

Dear folks,

We're still in Santos but we'll be leaving today after 6 pm., after making an excursion to Sao Paulo and going out to see the city. We slept like logs. And today after breakfast we went to the beach and swam for the equivalent of 60 Argentine centavos. That covered renting a little cabana with towels, soap and even an ice cream. On the way back I splurged, spending 1500 reis (about 30 Argentine centavos) on a hat. Among us is a guy from Uruguay who has a stipend to study music. He's been in the US for 4 years. His name is Car‡mbula and he knows our neighbor, Bendixen. We'll stop in Rio, so let Coco Ricci know that I'm bringing the package. (Coco's telephone number is 42-1519).

Everything is very nice and we're expecting a great trip and a smooth ride since the boat is loaded down; they've been rushing for two days to load on coffee. The day after tomorrow, from Rio de Janeiro, I'll be sending more news. I think that I'll do right by sending my letters to dad's office on Acu–a de Figueroa. From Rio, I'll send you the address of the company in New Orleans where we expect to arrive by the 5th of February.

Regards to all and hugs to you from Ito
